Is Parole Automatic?

Is parole “automatic” when an offender meets the time and program requirements?

No. Offenders will be considered for parole when the statutory time requirements are met and they have served sufficient time to be legally eligible to be released.

However, it is up to parole panel members to decide, among other things, whether an offender has properly adjusted in prison, is no longer a threat to society, and is ready to accept the responsibilities of a law-abiding citizen.

Each offender is unique and will be evaluated on an individual basis. There are no compulsory release criteria that must be followed by the parole panel in every case.
